thistle + trunk is a Virtual Writing (and sometimes Assisting) business primarily located on Vancouver Island, Canada, in Pacific Standard Time. Founded in 2020, it is my answer to the question that had been nagging me through my years as an administrative professional: why does my company force me to work harder instead of smarter?

 

The requirement to be at a desk for an eight hour shift, regardless of the amount of work to do, stifled both my efficiency and my creativity. It also tethered me to my city when I would have been just as happy (and capable) travelling and working remotely.

When a friend put me in contact with a virtual assistant she knew, the trajectory of my life changed. I invested in a Virtual Assisting course and subsequently opened up t + t. Named for the national flower of Scotland, elephants, and travel luggage, it is the epitome of my goals as a human being: work with people who inspire me, bring my specific skill set to those who need it, see the world, tell stories.

Throughout the first year of my business, I found myself consistently tasked with writing for my clients. My lifelong passion for language arts met a need my clients had for articulate and effective written communication. I realized that my enjoyment of writing, combined with my skill level, was a no-brainer leap to transitioning to virtual writing: blogs, emails, website copy, newsletters, Instagram captions, e-courses, etc.

I also enjoy creating graphics and content for social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube.

My goal is to support people I connect and vibe with. I am particularly drawn to HAES nutritionists and dietitians, as well as mental health care providers (therapists, counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists).
